For anyone buying or selling a home in Mumbai, one thing is certain: infrastructure drives value. It’s not just about square footage or finishes; access and convenience can make or break a property’s appeal. And with the opening of Mumbai Metro Line 3’s Phase 2A, the real estate landscape between BKC and Worli just got a serious upgrade.
Mumbai’s daily grind just got a little smoother. On May 10, 2025, the much-anticipated Phase 2A of Mumbai Metro Line 3, stretching from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli, officially opened to the public. This 9.77 km underground corridor, part of the Aqua Line, promises to redefine commuting for thousands of Mumbaikars.
Inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, the new stretch features six stations: Dharavi, Shitaladevi, Dadar West, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. The inaugural ride from BKC to Siddhivinayak Temple showcased the line’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, including multiple entry and exit points designed to ease congestion.
Commuters have already embraced the new route. On its opening day, the line saw over 26,000 riders, with numbers climbing to nearly 30,000 the following day. Travelers praised the metro's speed, cleanliness, and comfort. For many, the journey between BKC and Worli now takes just 15-20 minutes, a significant improvement over the often gridlocked roadways.
Looking ahead, the final phase connecting Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade is slated to open in August 2025. Once completed, the full 33.5 km Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor will become India’s longest fully underground metro line, enhancing connectivity between key business districts and residential areas.
Despite the excitement, some challenges remain. Mobile network connectivity within the underground stations has been inconsistent, with telecom operators citing commercial disagreements with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL). In response, MMRCL has introduced free Wi-Fi at station concourses to ensure essential digital transactions can continue uninterrupted.
All in all, the BKC-Worli stretch of Metro Line 3 isn’t just a big step for public transport, it’s a powerful value booster for nearby real estate. From better connectivity and shorter commutes to a noticeable uplift in quality of life, this development is set to shape how and where Mumbaikars choose to live next.
